The sacred Char Dham Yatra, a revered pilgrimage undertaken by devotees across India, leads thousands to the holy sites of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. This journey, imbued with spiritual significance, is often arduous and challenging, leading many pilgrims to rely on horses, mules, and donkeys for transport through the treacherous mountain paths. While this practice eases the physical burden on the devotees, it imposes a heavy toll on the animals involved, often subjecting them to extreme cruelty and suffering.
Latest UpdatesThe conditions these animals endure are heart-wrenching. Forced to carry heavy loads and people up steep inclines, many animals suffer severe injuries. Cases of animals falling from heights, sustaining fractured legs, and being brutally beaten are alarmingly common. The harsh reality is that these loyal creatures, which serve tirelessly, are frequently neglected and mistreated.
One particularly tragic case underscores the dire situation. A horse, grievously injured with a fractured leg, was brought to the Dog Home Foundation. Due to the lack of adequate medical facilities in Uttarakhand, the horse had to be transported all the way to Jodhpur for treatment. Despite the best efforts of the foundation’s medical team, the horse’s leg had to be amputated. This horse, now disabled, will never walk again. Such cases are a stark reminder of the cruelty and neglect these animals face daily.
At the Dog Home Foundation, we stand firmly against animal cruelty. Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate animals exploited in pilgrimages and other strenuous tasks. We provide a sanctuary where these animals receive the care they deserve, including medical treatment, nutritious food, and, most importantly, love and compassion. Our facilities operate round the clock to ensure these animals have a safe haven to recover and live peacefully.
We urge all devotees and travelers to reconsider their choices when undertaking the Char Dham Yatra. By choosing not to use horses, mules, and donkeys for transport, you can significantly reduce the suffering and exploitation these animals endure. Opt for alternatives like walking or using more humane means of transport where available. Your choice can make a substantial difference in the lives of these animals.
To our esteemed donors and supporters, we appeal for your continued help in our mission. The Dog Home Foundation is committed to rescuing and providing lifelong care for animals abused in the name of tradition and convenience. Your donations help us maintain and expand our facilities, ensuring that more animals in need can find refuge and receive the care they deserve.
Together, we can create a world where no animal suffers from human cruelty and neglect. Let’s make compassionate choices that honor the true spirit of pilgrimage – a journey not just of physical distance, but of the heart, filled with kindness and respect for all living beings. Boycott the use of animals in the Char Dham Yatra and support organizations like the Dog Home Foundation in their efforts to rescue and rehabilitate these noble creatures. Your support is their hope for a better, kinder world.
The time will vary based on the condition of the animal and the number of animal emergencies at that time. Our helpline call attendants send the ambulances to the most critical animals first, such as animals who are unable to walk, have fractures, are bleeding, etc.
If it’s taking time for the ambulance to reach, please know that it’s because there are more critical rescues required first.
If you can bring the animal to Animal Aid yourself this is greatly appreciated and will ensure fast treatment.
